Traveler of the Month: Amanda M!

Name: Amanda M.

City, State: Bellevue, WA

Specialty: ER

Month: January

1. How did you get into travel nursing?

I started travel nursing with my husband about 8 years ago so we could get out and see parts of the United States that we had never been to and explore more. Also, to not be tied down to one particular city for long periods of time. Also, getting to travel in our 5th wheel is an added bonus!

2. What’s the best part about traveling?

I like the flexibility of being able to work when I want to and where I want to. I like to work during the winter and take the warmer months off. It’s also nice to know that if you don’t like a particular location that’s it’s only temporary and then you can move on to the next location. I haven’t been anywhere that I haven’t liked so far! The money is a great added bonus as well!

3. You meet a first-time traveler in the Bellevue/Seattle area, which restaurant is a must for them to try?

I liked The Melting Pot…so good! Of course, Chick-fil-A is right down the street from the hospital so that was amazing since there isn’t one close to me in my home state.  Also, the hospital is across the street from Whole Foods which was great to go pick up lunch.  There are so many places to choose from and there is every type of food you can imagine.

4. What’s the best part about the Bellevue/Seattle area?

I like that there is so much to do/explore. There are so many great places to hike in the mountains, go downtown and see all of the tourist attractions. Also, I have family in the area so I was able to spend time with them as well.

5. Any advice for other travelers?

Don’t be afraid to go to new places. I have made some lifelong friends while travel nursing. Get out there and go to places that you want to spend time in that you otherwise may never get to experience. Travel nursing is one of the best perks of being a nurse. Also, make friends with the person who does the schedule as this will help you get the schedule you want!

6. What do you like best about working with Axis?

Hands down my recruiter Charity! I have known and worked with her for a long time and when she moved to Axis I followed her! She is so responsive and is amazing to work with. The whole Axis team has been amazing and easy to work with and makes the compliance process so easy with constant communication. They also have contracts in big cities and smaller areas so there is always a lot to choose from.

Congrats Amanda! We’re so glad you joined the Axis team! 🙂
