Can I Become a Traveler as a New Grad?

Unfortunately, no. Industry standards generally require travelers to have at least one to two years of applicable experience. Before gaining this experience, you must also pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

Compliance and Onboarding

What Are The Compliance Requirements?

Before beginning your assignment, you’ll need to complete various health screenings, background checks, and drug tests. Your vaccination records will also need to be up to date. The various requirements will depend on each facility.

Will I Receive Orientation When I Start a New Assignment?

Yes, orientation varies depending on the healthcare facility but in addition to first day instructions, you can expect an on-site orientation to acclimate you to your new role.

Are There Any Compliance Requirements That Are Required Annually?

This will depend on each facility. Most facilities require drug screens, TB tests, physicals, flu shots, and Joint Commission assessments to be completed each year, so it’s important to keep these documents up to date.

Will Axis Help Coordinate Appointments For Any Compliance Items I Need?

Yes, your Onboarding Specialist will help coordinate anything you need and will partner with you to ensure you are successfully compliant and start on schedule.

Are First Day Instructions Provided Prior To Starting an Assignment?

Yes, first day instructions are provided directly to the traveler either by the agency, client, or the facility. These instructions are typically sent the Thursday or Friday before start dates and will include any necessary information needed for the first day/week.

Can I Obtain My BLS, ACLS, and PALS Through Any Provider?

Should I Keep Record Of My Compliance Items For Future Assignments?

Yes, many of the requirements will carry over to future requirements, but some will not. Having all your records in one place makes it easy for you to complete future compliance processes.

Will I Work With a Dedicated Person For Compliance?

Yes, you will have an Onboarding Specialist who will assist you with everything required to start your assignment for a seamless transition. Your Onboarding Specialist will work with you throughout your employment with Axis to ensure you remain compliant.

How Do I Complete My Onboarding?

Our applicant portal, LEAP, is your one-stop-shop for completing compliance. You can upload copies of your certifications, clinical records, licenses, etc. and complete any required documentation in LEAP that your Compliance Specialist has assigned you.

Are There Any Compliance Requirements That Are Required To Be Updated On An Annual Basis?

Yes. Axis is a Joint Commission accredited staffing agency and required to update certain credentials each year. Your physical, TB test, competency exams, drug screen, background check, and flu shot must be updated each year. Some facilities may require additional items be renewed as well however your Compliance Specialist will work with you every step of the way.

Licensing and Certifications

How Does Licensing Work as a Traveler?

An active RN license for the state of your assignment is essential. If the state is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), a single multi-state license covers you. How Far In Advance Should I Submit My Online Application Before Starting a Travel Nursing Assignment?

We recommend submitting your online application 4-8 weeks before your planned start date. This allows time for the application process, submitting your profile to open positions, conducting interviews, going through credential verification and the onboarding process, as well as securing housing and making travel arrangements. Following this timeline ensures a smoother transition and increases your chances of landing your preferred assignments.
