Travel Nurse of the Month – Stephani L!

Name: Stephani L.

City, State: Portland, OR

Specialty: Endoscopy/Sedation

Month: Apr. 1

1.  How’d you get into travel nursing?

I was approaching my second year as an ER RN when I started having conversations with current travel nurses and co-workers who’d also traveled.  I started a course from a friend of a friend about the do’s and don’ts of travel nursing.  I realized quickly that being a newer nurse working in the union it would take me several years to earn what I could now as a travel nurse.  I saw Lynna’s ad for a sedation nurse in Sacramento and after a lot of questions we submitted me.  This did not pan out and I got cold feet and decided to wait longer to travel.  Four months went by and I became so burned out on the ER I contacted Lynna again.  At that very time there was a sedation position available two hours north of me.  Within one month I had moved and started this new life!

2.  What’s the best part about traveling?

Meeting new people, new experiences, new skills learned and better money of course!

3.  You meet a first time travel nurse in the Portland area, which restaurants are a must for them to try?

Go try out the McMennamins across the PNW.  There are so many great places to eat in the area.  Get downtown to Mother’s Bistro for breakfast, it’s a must!

Summer and only summer for this sun loving girl! lol!

5.  Any advice for other travelers?

There are more ways to travel than just being in one spot for only 13 weeks.  I’ve taken my 3 dogs and myself rented my place for a year, saving a lot of money and stayed in a large enough metropolitan area that there is plenty of work to stay busy for the 51 weeks you can be there.

6.  How do you compare Axis to others travel companies?

Lynna listens to you and what you want to accomplish and do as a travel nurse and then goes to work to get you the best position, the best pay and as much reimbursement and stipends possible! She thinks ahead and you know you are protected with her. I’ve had other recruiters try to win me away but they simply cannot produce the way she has!

Congrats Stephani! We’re beyond happy you chose to be a part of the Axis Team! 🙂
