January 2026 Traveler of the Month Savannah

Travel nursing has given me the opportunity to build my career while exploring new places and growing both personally and professionally. Being named Axis Medical Staffing’s January Traveler of the Month has been an exciting way to reflect on everything this journey has brought into my life so far.

Why I Chose Travel Nursing

I got into travel nursing to see more of the country. I have always loved traveling, and this felt like one of the best ways to have the time and resources to truly explore the U.S. I also did not know where I wanted to live full time, so travel nursing has given me the chance to try out different cities and states without making a long term commitment.

One of my favorite parts of being a travel nurse is the flexibility it provides. I was able to spend Christmas with my family in Mexico this year and have taken many other trips during time off from work, including Europe, the Bahamas, Arizona, California, and Florida.

My Current Assignment in Yakima Washington

I am currently on assignment in Yakima, Washington, and one of my favorite things about this location is how close it is to nature. There are so many beautiful places throughout the West Coast, and I have an abundance of hikes and trails to explore on my days off.

I am originally from Minnesota, so I have been especially appreciative of the milder winter weather. Even though it is not the warmest state, it has definitely felt like a nice winter compared to what I am used to.

The Most Rewarding Part of Travel Nursing

The most rewarding experience I have had as a traveler is meeting new friends from around the country. I have met some of the best people during my contracts, many of whom I still keep in touch with and hope to continue connecting with for years to come.

Travel nursing has also helped me grow in ways I did not expect. I have become much more independent and confident in myself, and that personal growth has been incredibly rewarding.

How I Spend My Free Time

Whenever I have free time, I love exploring the area I am in. Here in Washington, that usually means hiking and spending time outdoors, as well as visiting local wineries and vineyards that the area is known for.

I also enjoy relaxing at home, reading, and spending time with my cat, Chimichanga, who comes with me on all of my assignments.

I have learned so much as a traveler and feel far more confident in my nursing skills than I ever expected. Choosing travel nursing has been one of the best decisions I have made.
