April 2026 Traveler of the Month Dylan

by | May 16, 2026

This month, we’re excited to recognize our April 2026 Traveler of the Month, Dylan Smith. Dylan took the leap into travel nursing to challenge themselves, grow professionally, and experience new places along the way. From caring for patients in New Hampshire to spending their days off hiking, skiing, and exploring the outdoors, Dylan’s journey truly reflects what travel nursing is all about.

Why did you get into travel nursing?

I decided to finally get into travel nursing because I wanted to challenge myself and expand my nursing experience beyond what I knew I was comfortable with. I thought about traveling as a nurse since earlier on in my career. It took me several years to build up my confidence in my skills

What do you enjoy most about your current location?

As I first time traveler, I have been working in Southern New Hampshire. I have always wanted to spend more time in New Hampshire. I like the people in Keene, and I have enjoyed living in a more rural setting. I have been renting in Marlow. Compared to where I live normally in Providence, RI, I feel surrounded by nature there and enjoy the peace and quiet. And of course, I love being so close to the White Mountains and the ample opportunities for hiking and skiing.

What has been a rewarding experience as a traveler?

It has been rewarding to see how seamlessly my nursing practice can transfer across states and facilities. There are always differences when you change jobs- the culture, the policies, expected communication practices. However, the core of what a nurse does stays the same- being at the bedside ensuring patients are stable, comfortable, and cared for.

Since I have a solid foundation of this type of work, I am able to enjoy my days off doing what I love to do- immerse myself in nature. I open a map of New Hampshire and pick a new place I want to explore. It’s absolutely amazing.

What do you do in your free time?

Hiking, skiing, reading, camping, running, surfing and when I am back in RI, baking and cooking.

How did you discover Axis?

I discovered Axis online. I was overwhelmed by the quantity of agency options. Charity was extremely informative, patient, and friendly, which made choosing Axis very easy.

Any advice you’d give?

I think it is important to be confident and know your worth as a nurse. If you respect yourself and value your own time, you will gravitate toward others who show you that same respect.

Dylan’s story is a great reminder that growth often begins just outside your comfort zone. Whether it’s adapting to a new facility, building confidence in your skills, or exploring somewhere new on your days off, travel nursing creates opportunities that shape both your career and your life.

Congratulations to Dylan Smith, our April 2026 Traveler of the Month. We’re proud to be part of your journey and excited to see where travel nursing takes you next.
