At Axis, we believe great recruiting starts with building relationships and understanding individual goals. For Ryan, that’s what makes working in travel healthcare so rewarding.
Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, where he still lives today, Ryan has more than four years of recruiting experience, with most of his career focused on healthcare staffing. He’s passionate about helping travel healthcare professionals grow their careers while making a difference in the lives of the patients they care for along the way.
When he’s not working with travelers, you’ll likely find Ryan cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams, spending time with family or getting outside with his Blue Heeler and Australian Cattle Dog mix, Jax. He’s also an avid scuba diver with more than 100 dives under his belt!
Finding His Place in Healthcare Recruiting
Ryan’s path into healthcare staffing started when the opportunity presented itself, and it didn’t take long for him to find a career he genuinely enjoyed.
He has spent more than four years in recruiting, with the majority of that time dedicated to healthcare. What keeps him passionate about the work is the opportunity to help travelers take the next step in their careers while making a positive impact on others.
“Getting the chance to help them build their careers and make a difference by helping others in a positive and significant way through the people they positively touch through the jobs I help them attain.”
For Ryan, recruiting is about more than finding the next assignment. It’s about connecting healthcare professionals with opportunities that allow them to grow, explore and continue doing meaningful work.
What Makes Axis Medical Different?
When asked what sets Axis apart from other staffing agencies, Ryan points to one thing and that being personalized attention.
Every traveler has different goals, preferences and priorities. Some are looking to explore a new part of the country, while others are focused on gaining experience or finding an assignment that fits their lifestyle.
Ryan believes taking the time to understand those individual needs makes all the difference. Rather than treating every traveler the same, he values getting to know the person behind the profile and helping them find opportunities that make sense for them.
That personal approach is a big part of what makes the travel healthcare experience rewarding, both for recruiters and the travelers they support.
Ryan’s Advice for New Travel Healthcare Professionals
Thinking about starting your travel healthcare journey? Ryan has some encouraging advice for anyone considering their first assignment.
“After your first contract, the world is your oyster and where you want to visit over your travel career.”
One of the exciting parts of travel healthcare is the opportunity to experience new places while continuing to build your career. Your first contract can open the door to destinations you may never have considered, new professional experiences and plenty of opportunities to discover what matters most to you.
Ryan has noticed that the West Coast and mountain destinations tend to be favorites among travelers, but there’s no shortage of places to explore across the country. His advice? Keep an open mind and think about what you want out of the experience. Whether that’s living near the mountains, exploring a new city or finding a quieter place to enjoy your days off, travel healthcare gives you the chance to make the journey your own.
A Love for Travel, Adventure and the Outdoors
It’s no surprise that Ryan enjoys helping travelers explore new places. He’s done plenty of exploring himself!
With more than 100 scuba dives completed, Ryan has experienced some incredible underwater destinations, including Maui, Cozumel and the Florida Keys, where he’s been diving four times. When asked about his favorite vacation, he couldn’t narrow it down to just one. Maui and Cozumel are tied at the top, thanks to their memorable scuba diving experiences.
Closer to home, Ryan’s favorite U.S. destination is the Upper Peninsula and the North Woods of Wisconsin. He enjoys getting outside, staying active and trying new experiences whenever he can. And his adventure list isn’t finished yet. Three things still on his bucket list include a Stuart Cove shark dive in the Bahamas, skydiving and catching a musky.
A Proud Chicagoan Through and Through
You can’t talk about Ryan without talking about Chicago sports. Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, he’s a loyal fan of both the Chicago Bears and the Chicago White Sox. His favorite way to spend time outside of work includes watching games, staying active, trying new things and making memories with family.
And then there’s Jax, Ryan’s Blue Heeler and Australian Cattle Dog mix. Ryan has had Jax since he was just eight weeks old, and nearly 11 years later, the two still keep each other busy with daily frisbee sessions.
