Axis Spotlight Buffy Walsh

by | Oct 9, 2026

At Axis Medical Staffing, building strong relationships with healthcare facilities starts with understanding the people behind the needs. Our newest Senior Account Manager, Buffy Walsh, brings years of experience across healthcare staffing, along with a firsthand understanding of what it takes to support clinicians and the facilities they serve.

Buffy began her career in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant at just 17 years old. Since then, she has worked in nearly every part of the staffing agency world, from travel recruiting and payroll to operations and business development. That experience gives her a well-rounded perspective on the challenges healthcare facilities face and the importance of finding the right people for the job.

We sat down with Buffy to learn more about her background, her approach to building successful staffing partnerships and what she enjoys most about life outside of work.

Getting Her Start in Healthcare Staffing

Buffy’s career began on the clinical side of healthcare, where she saw firsthand how staffing affects both caregivers and patient care.

“I started in healthcare at 17 as a CNA, so I know firsthand what caregivers deal with and what’s at stake when a unit is short-staffed,” Buffy shares.

She eventually moved into healthcare staffing as a per diem staffing coordinator for a nursing agency. That first step opened the door to a career that has taken her through travel recruiting, payroll and billing, operations and business development.

Having worked across so many areas of staffing, Buffy understands the moving parts involved in making a placement successful. She knows what clinicians need to feel supported and what facilities need from a staffing partner they can trust.

“I’m not at the bedside anymore, but I still feel like part of the solution, and that’s what I love about this work.”

Building Strong Healthcare Staffing Partnerships

For Buffy, successful staffing partnerships go beyond filling open positions. They start with taking the time to understand each facility, its team and the kind of clinician who will thrive in that environment.

A great partnership, she explains, is built on trust, communication and follow-through. That means understanding more than a job description. Unit culture, expectations, scheduling needs and the overall work environment all play a role in finding the right match.

Buffy also believes in being honest and keeping communication open, especially when challenges arise. Whether a facility is navigating a tight hiring market or a credentialing delay, she wants clients to know where things stand and what steps are being taken to move forward.

And her work doesn’t stop once a clinician accepts an assignment.

Checking in with both the facility and the clinician helps Buffy catch potential issues early and keep things running smoothly and be able to adapt quickly.

“When it’s working, the facility sees me as an extension of their team, someone they can call first because they know I’ll deliver.”

Finding the Right Clinician for Every Setting

One thing Buffy appreciates about healthcare staffing is the variety of facilities and specialties involved. Throughout her career, she has worked with hospitals, correctional facilities, oncology infusion centers, school nursing programs, clinics, rehabilitation facilities and long-term care settings.

Each environment comes with its own needs, expectations and challenges. That’s why Buffy takes the time to understand what makes each position different before looking for candidates.

The goal isn’t simply to find someone who meets the qualifications. It’s to find a clinician whose experience and working style fit the facility.

When an urgent or hard-to-fill position comes up, Buffy starts by getting clear on the details, including specialty, shift, start date and any specific requirements. From there, she taps into Axis’s existing clinician network while also expanding the search through platforms like Vivian and Indeed.

Speed matters, but so does making the right match.

“Once we have candidates, I screen them carefully so I’m only sending people who truly fit, because a fast placement only helps if it’s the right one.”

Keeping Communication Open From Start to Finish

A successful placement takes teamwork, and Buffy knows how important it is to keep everyone on the same page.

From the initial staffing request through candidate submissions, interviews, offers and onboarding, she works to keep facilities informed at every step. She also works closely with Axis’s credentialing team to help ensure clinicians are ready to start on time.

If an issue comes up, the priority is to communicate early, explain what’s happening and work together on a solution.

As the first day approaches, Buffy also makes sure clinicians have the information they need to walk in feeling prepared, including where to go, who to report to and what to expect.

It’s a simple step that can make a big difference in how an assignment begins.

What Makes Axis Medical Staffing Different?

For Buffy, one of the biggest differences at Axis is instead of treating travelers as names on a schedule, the team takes time to understand their skills, career goals and the environments where they do their best work.

That same approach extends to healthcare facilities. By getting to know clients and understanding their needs you can help fill positions where it’s needed most, Axis can focus on thoughtful matches rather than simply filling a shift.

Buffy believes that when clinicians feel valued and supported, it benefits everyone involved, from the healthcare facility to the patients receiving care.

It’s an approach that fits naturally with her own relationship-first philosophy and her belief that good staffing starts with getting to know the people on both sides of the partnership.

A Little More About Buffy

Outside of work, Buffy is all about family, creativity and exploring new places.

She’s a big Disney fan and makes the most of living in Florida, where trips to the parks are never too far away. She also enjoys crafting, checking out local festivals and Saturday markets and discovering new places to explore.

When it comes to her favorite places in the country, Buffy has a hard time choosing just one. Having traveled everywhere from small towns in Texas and Wisconsin to bigger cities like New York and Seattle, she’s found something to appreciate in every place she’s visited.

These days, she loves calling Florida home and enjoying what feels like a tropical vacation year-round.

It’s also one of the things she appreciates most about travel healthcare. Clinicians get the opportunity to experience new places, discover favorite destinations and build memories along the way.

Welcome to Axis, Buffy!

With her firsthand healthcare experience, broad staffing background and commitment to building lasting relationships, Buffy brings a thoughtful, people-first approach to her role as Senior Account Manager.

We’re excited to have her on the Axis Medical Staffing team and look forward to the partnerships she’ll continue to build with healthcare facilities and clinicians across the country.
