Traveler of the Month: Whitley W!

Name: Whitley W.

City, State: Greenville, SC

Specialty: ICU

Month: December

1. How did you get into travel nursing?

I started travel nursing this year when COVID began. As an ICU nurse, I felt like I could help in areas that needed it the most. I also had a couple of travel nurse friends who always talked about how much they loved it, so I figured it was a great time to start.

2. What’s the best part about traveling?

I love traveling so much. I have learned so much in the past year that I know I wouldn’t have if I stayed at one facility. It is interesting to see how healthcare workers handle things differently in each area of the country. I have picked up many different techniques and skills that will help me in my future career. I have also met so many amazing people along the way. I met some of my best friends on my current assignment.

3. You meet a first-time traveler in the Greenville area, which restaurant is a must for them to try?

WHITE DUCK. Jackfruit tacos. Yum. (Vegetarian and vegan friendly!)

4. What’s the best part about the Greenville area?

Downtown Greenville is a super cute area with lots of unique places to eat and shop. Easley is a smaller town that has some hidden restaurant gems with amazing pizza. All the people I have met here at BEH have been so welcoming and friendly. It’s one of those assignments that make you want to stay forever.

5. Any advice for other travelers?

Don’t fret the assignments you miss. Something that is perfect for you will pop up when you least expect it. Also, try not to stress too much on your first orientation day. It can be confusing, but no other traveler knows what they are doing, either. The easiest thing is to go with the flow and let the facility guide you. They need you, so they will make sure you get where you need to be!

6. What do you like best about working with Axis?

I love my recruiter! Some agencies talk to you like you are buying a car, but I haven’t felt that way with Axis. Charity is quick to help me when I need it, and always makes sure things are fair for me. She also knows that some assignments are not right for me and doesn’t try to push them on me. Everyone has been great to work with so far, and I consider my recruiter a friend. Don’t forget they pay for your pet fees – totally a sign of good people. 😉

Congrats Whitley! We’re so glad you joined the Axis team! 🙂
