1. How’d you get into travel nursing?
Traveling in general has always been a dream of mine that up until a few years ago seemed unattainable. I took my first vacation and first plane ride 4 years ago at age 29 and never looked back. About a year after my first vacation I was planning another when someone told to become a travel nurse. I never knew it was a “thing” and I was intrigued. It took me a while but about a year and a half ago I jumped, so to say, and have loved every crazy minute of it since.
2. What’s the best part about traveling?
There are so many amazing parts. Meeting new people from different parts of the US and living in new places is amazing. It also helps you grow as a nurse and learn so much.
3. You meet a first time traveler in the Little Rock area, which restaurant is a must for them to try?
So many good places, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, there is also a place called Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro and Whole Hog Cafe are my favorites.
4. What’s the best part about the Little Rock area?
Being a dog owner, my favorite part of LR is access to all the hiking trails so my dogs are able to take part in what the new city has to offer as well. Pinnacle Mountain, Petit Jean State Park and the Two Rivers Park Bridge that connects to the Big Dam bridge are my favorites.
5. Any advice for other travelers?
The biggest thing I wish I knew before starting was to look for housing prior to submitting to an assignment. Especially for pet owners you don’t want to get stuck paying a lot more than your budget allows. I suppose also just be flexible and willing to try new things and hang out with new people. I didn’t do this my first assignment and I missed out for sure.
6. How do you compare Axis to others travel companies?
Axis is the third company I have worked for and they definitely stand out. I was in a huge bind before this assignment and had 4 companies looking for assignments and nothing. I ended up randomly messaging Alisha and she’s got things moving so quickly and had the highest paying offer out of all the companies. She submitted me and the next day I had a job. She and Lynna made the whole process so smooth. It has been a great experience.
