How’d you get into travel nursing?

When I began my nursing career I took a Nurse Resident position in Nashville, TN. As a Portland, Oregon native, this was a long way from home for me. I loved Nashville but was ready to head back to the west coast and traveling seemed like the perfect opportunity to do that. And once I started taking traveling contracts, I could not stop.

I was nervous to begin traveling but my recruiter, new manager and colleagues have been very friendly, helpful and welcome.

What’s the best part about being a travel nurse?

The best part about traveling is definitely all the new relationships that are created. It is great to be constantly meeting people and being immersed into different cultures. Each hospital and nursing staff has so many great things to offer. Of course seeing the new sights is always a plus.

You meet a first time traveler in Seattle, which restaurant do they have to try?

I went to this very small Italian restaurant when I first arrived in Seattle, Al Boccalino’s, and was very impressed. Purple and Pink Door are always fun tourist favorites.

What’s the best part about the Seattle?

I am awed by the beauty that I see everyday in Bellevue/Seattle and the surrounding areas. I love how you are constantly surrounded by water and there is never a time I have ran out of new places to explore.

Any advice for other travel nurses?

Flexibility is key. Things will probably not always turn out how you want especially with scheduling/and or situations you may be put in. Just remember to go with the flow as much as you can without sacrificing what you stand for or your personal time.
