Travel Nursing and Doggy Daycare

For many travel nurses, dogs are more than just a pet, they’re part of the family. Long hospital shifts can make it tough to give your dog the attention they need. Finding reliable doggy daycare and pet-friendly activities in your new city can really make or break a contract. So, how do you find the help? Who can you trust in a new city to care for your pup? What about a last minute drop off in an emergency? Are there safe dog parks around to release some of that energy? Here are some resources we recommend using when determining whether a new city is a perfect fit for you and your travel bud!

Doggy Daycare

Doggy Daycare has really started to take off in the last few years. There are several different ways to find quality care in your area. Many travel nurses utilize websites like Rover to ensure their pooch is well taken care of while they’re away. Just enter your dog’s basic information, and let Rover match you with hundreds of local dog sitters offering an array of services. From dog walking, to overnight boarding, even grooming and bathing, Rover has someone for all your dog’s needs.

Rest assured that Rover also does all the legwork in vetting potential sittings. Each sitter’s qualifications and experience are conveniently listed in their profile so you can make an informed decision. In the profile’s are also reviews from other dog parents so you can read up on the experience of others before booking. If the options are limited on these apps, National retailers like Petsmart also offer “doggy daycamps.” Also, Yelp is another great tool to find local doggy daycares used and reviewed by others.

Dog Parks

It’s no surprise to us to hear your travel companion is as much of an adventurer as you are. From hikes to park days to relaxing on the beach; we know you want to ensure the next place you go will be just as fun for them as it will be for you. Luckily, these searches can now be done and logged from your phone. Dog Park Finder has over 6,600 dog parks, beaches, and pet-friendly hikes. You can search for different options based on current location, city, or zip code. Dog Park Finder even shows you the different amenities of each park, such as whether or not they have bathrooms or a fenced area. You can also access hundreds of user reviews and photos, so you can do your research before you go.

BarkHappy is another great option. You can search for dog parks, as well as other dog-friendly businesses like restaurants and hotels. They also let you create a profile for your dog, so they can make new friends, and you can connect with other dog lovers in the area. You can stay up-to-date on local dog-friendly events, schedule play-dates, and even send “wags” to break the ice.

Looking for something a little more private? Sniffspot is an app you can use to find private yards and open spaces that you can rent out for your dog to run around in. If you have a newer pup that isn’t up to date on vaccinations, one that may not socialize well with others or you’re looking to just spend some alone time with your fur-baby, this is the perfect app for that! Choose from hundreds of listings, based on location, rental price, and amenities offered.
