Travel Nurse of the Month – Marika L!

Name: Marika L.

City, State: Las Vegas, NV

Specialty: NICU

Month: Mar. 1

1.  How’d you get into travel nursing?

I started travel nursing because I had been craving some variety. I absolutely adored my co-workers and the hospital I was working for but after several years of the same environment, I felt myself becoming anxious for a change of pace. I reached out to a number of recruiters, found Sara and the rest is history!

2.  What’s the best part about traveling?

Travel nursing has given me the opportunity to see new places, meet new people, learn about different patient demographics, hospital systems and has challenged me both as a nurse and as a person. I love that I can explore new areas as a local rather than as a tourist.

3.  You meet a first time travel nurse in the Las Vegas area, which restaurant is a must for them to try?

On the strip – you have to check out the Chandelier bar at the Cosmopolitan… It’s really beautiful. Off the strip – Stoney’s Country Bar is an awesome place to meet new people, dance and have some fun. If you just want some delicious food, Soho Sushi Bowlritto is my favorite. They make seaweed wrapped sushi burritos – for under $10. They are as amazing as they sound!

4. What’s the best part about the Las Vegas area?

The outdoor activities are endless here. The Red Rocks national park and Lake Mead are both within 30 min with hundreds of trails, rock climbing routes and activities available to visitors. And its almost always sunny! Coming from Seattle, this is a big selling point!

5.  Any advice for other travelers?

My advice for other travelers is force yourself to be outgoing. All of the friends I have made on assignment have been people who I approached with a smile and an introduction. Most people are fascinated by the lifestyle and are happy to show you around.

6.  How do you compare Axis to others travel companies?

Axis stood out to me from the very first conversation I had with my recruiter, Sara. After our initial phone call, I immediately received a detailed synopsis of our conversation and a list of the next steps. It was a type-A NICU nurse’s dream! Everyone at Axis has been a pleasure to work with and I love the open communication and personal touches that they strive to provide their nurses.

Congrats Marika! We’re so glad you joined to the Axis team! 🙂
