Welcome to Stockton, CA!
Stockton, California is a hidden gem. It has a wealth of highly-rated eateries, cultural hot spots, and entertainment options, and more importantly, it offers affordable housing in a great area of California.
The city is located on the San Joaquin River in the northern San Joaquin Valley and boasts a wonderful Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, and is surrounded by plenty of farms and wineries which means there’s an abundance of fresh, tasty, local produce served up in the restaurants and bars across the city.

Around the City
There are many parks and lakeside walks around the city, and Stockton’s waterfront district is excellent for an evening stroll, dining, and entertainment. Micke Grove Regional Park is lovely for a long walk, and there is also a small zoo and animal preservation park which is fun for people of all ages.
For big serious hikes, you can drive to Yosemite National Park in around two hours, and it’s less than two hours to Stanislaus National Forest, Eldorado National Forest, and Mt Diablo.

One of the best things to do nearby is to take the 20-minute drive to Lodi, which is known as the Zinfandel capital of the world, and visit one of the tremendous selections of over 85 wineries that offer tours and tastings most weekends.
Stockton is also around an hour and a half’s drive to San Francisco for those who want to experience the big metropolitan lifestyle and have a wild weekend away.

Entertainment
Sports fans will relish the fact that Stockton has its own baseball team – the Stockton Ports, a minor league team who play at the Banner Island Ballpark. Catch a game with a beer and a hotdog in the summer for the ideal day out.
There are plenty of options for things to do around Stockton, including museums, theaters, and entertainment venues (the Children’s Museum, the Art Expressions of San Joaquin, the Bob Hope Theatre, the Delta Center for the Arts, the Conservatory of Music, and the Grand Theater for the Arts, among others). It’s also around 40 mins drive to Funworks Modesto – a huge amusement center for kids, for those with tiny humans or tiny relatives.

Nearby Lodi is incredibly well-loved by Californians for long bike rides because of its warm climates and flat country roads, not to mention the abundance of wineries that offer a great place to finish up with a glass of wine whatever cycle route you choose.
If biking is a bit too active for you, Lodi also has many great spots for camping or parking your RV – a great relaxing way to discover all the wonderful wineries and take in the beautiful scenery.
Food and Drink
Because of its diverse cultural population, Stockton’s restaurant scene is home to a huge range of cuisines, so there’s something for anyone. In fact, locals are so proud of their food scene that there’s a whole week in January – Stockton Restaurant Week – devoted to showcasing the city’s dining spots and food culture.
Mexican food is popular in the city – for authentic style street food, head to Tepa Taqueria, or Taqueria Chapala whose tacos and burritos come highly recommended. For the best, highest quality Mexican food that isn’t burritos and tacos (think salsa verde pork or chipotle shrimp and guacamole, with rice and beans), Don Luis Mexican Restaurant is the place to go.
There’s a wealth of places for favorite comfort food dishes – Angelina’s Spaghetti House has been serving up Italian pasta dishes for generations, Yen Du is recommended for mouth-watering Chinese food in a homely and warm setting, and Smitty’s Wings and Things is so popular it’s been featured on TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

For something more upmarket, try Mile Wine Club for fine food and drink and wonderful brunches. Alternatively, Market Tavern is a great spot for upscale dining and delicious drinks, and also has a marvelous grocery store attached.
While this area of California is famed for its wine, there are also some great places for beer lovers – the likes of Valley Brewery and Channel Brewery are popular for tasty craft brews, and the Abbey Trappist Pub serves up Belgian beers and traditional pub food.
