Travel Nurse of the Month – Dani A!

Name: Dani A.

City, State: Seattle, WA

Specialty: Oncology

Month: April

1.  How’d you get into travel nursing?

I first heard about traveling when I was in nursing school. It was a surreal concept; I could travel anywhere I wanted to and live there for however long I wanted?! I remember thinking, “why didn’t every nurse do this?” I would spend hours looking up destinations and comparing companies to see how long I would have to wait before I could apply (dang experience held me back!). When the moment finally hit that I had enough experience, calls from companies starting pouring in. I couldn’t believe that I had finally paid my dues and I was able to go out and live my dream. It was nerve-wrecking thinking about leaving, and I had my doubts, but luckily I had met a fellow nurse who decided to travel with me. There was no stopping us from there…

2.  What’s the best part about traveling?

The nurse who decided to travel with me is now my future husband. How cool is that to say that I get to travel across the country working in the profession that I love with the person that I love? My favorite is when we reflect on some of the little things from each assignment…our favorite restaurant in San Francisco for dinner; the best ice cream place in Portland; that local ski shop in Glenwood Springs, CO.

3.  You meet a first time travel nurse in the Seattle area, which restaurant is a must for them to try?

How do I choose just one place?!

Dinner: Momiji in Capitol Hill. It has a great happy hour, delicious drinks, and the longest list of nothing but fabulous sushi rolls.

Brunch: Brunswick & Hunt in Ballard. Seriously, so delicious.

4. What’s the best part about the Seattle area?

Seattle is a beautifully active city. If someone would have told me 8 months ago when I was back on an assignment in Texas that I would walk 2 miles to and from work every day I would have thought they were crazy. But I’m doing it, and I’m loving it. The best is when I have a clear day walking to work and I can see the Olympic Mountains behind the Puget Sound…can I also say that this city has it all?! Night life. Mountains. Beaches. What more could someone want?

5.  Any advice for other travelers?

Go where you might not have thought you would ever go – there’s charm in every city. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort level and try new things…this is why you became a traveler in the first place!

6.  How do you compare Axis to others travel companies?

Axis is the most personal company I have ever worked with: I can call any line and they recognize my name. I’ve been given recommendations in the city for just about anything I could think of and they truly care about what I want as a traveler and deliver above and beyond what I requested.

Congrats Dani! We’re beyond happy that you joined the Axis team! 🙂
